Recently I had the opportunity to try Melissa’s Organic Blue Agave Syrup. I have to tell you that this is an amazing product. Its USDA Organic, made from hydrolyzed inulin extracted from organic agave. Its a “topping for fruit” however with the many recipes on their site there is clearly other uses for the product.
First a little about Melissa’s:
Established in 1984, Melissa’s/World Variety Produce, Inc. is currently the largest distributor of specialty produce in the United States. With over 1000 items available at any given time, Melissa’s imports and distributes exotic fresh fruits and vegetables from around the globe. Here’s a reference to its food safety program, and a reference to logistics.
Located in the Vernon district of Los Angeles, California, World Variety Produce began strictly as a source of specialty produce. In recent years, the company has incorporated a “one-stop shopping” concept.
And a little bit about the product, you can purchase it on their site HERE, its $13.99 for 3 bottles.
Melissa’s Organic Blue Agave Syrup is naturally derived from hydrolyzed inulin extracted from an organic Blue Weber Agave cactus plant, grown only in Mexico. It is 40% sweeter than sugar, so you will use less and consume fewer calories. Blue Agave is different from other agave syrups which are derived from wild agave; it has a milder but positive effect on blood sugar levels. Use as a fruit topping for cut fruits, pancake syrup or for anything you need some added sweetness that is high in flavor but low on the Glycemic Index.
While trying to eat healthier I have found that if I can make the food, toppings, dressings, etc that I eat I am about to make a healthier version. So what I first came across the Organic Blue Agave Syrup I noticed that their site had a recipe for Simple and Sweet Healthy Salad Dressing, which is beyond easy to make and one of the best salad dressings I have tried while trying to eat healthier. It is made with the Organic Blue Agave Syrup and Key Limes. You can not go wrong with this healthy alternative to traditional dressings.
In addition to this yummy recipe Melissa’s site also offers many other uses for the syrup such as Spicy Cranberry Sauce, Strawberry Banana and Flax Seed Smoothie and so many more. It addition its yummy tossed in with a fresh fruit salad. To learn more about this product and the wide variety of produce available check out Melissa’s website, facebook and twitter.
